This species ‘Commicarpus chinensis’ is mentioned on page 273 of Illustrated Flora of Keoladeo National Park by VP Prasad, Daniel Mason, Joy E. Marburger, CR Ajith Kumar.

I agree with you …, this should be Commicarpus chinensis. Why is there so much variations even in botanical names, which are supposed to be standard?

If we have to popularise ‘plant watching and identification’ there should be concerted efforts to bring out a consolidated list of common English names.

The leaves are opposite, mango shaped, approx 4cms length, soft, smooth surface. I think this plant is a climber.

Please help to identify this herb found on the shady location of scrub jungle (closer to a stream). I also noticed this herb over agricultural lands in Coimbatore and also adjoining Erode district of TN.

Herbs perennial. Stems thick, branches spreading, to 1 m, glabrous or sparsely pubescent. Petiole 1-3 cm, pubescent; leaf blade triangular-ovate or cordate-ovate, 3-6 × 2.5-5 cm, chartaceous, glabrous or abaxially strigose, veins 3-4 pairs, base truncate or subcordate, margin undulate, apex acuminate or acute. Umbels axillary or terminal; peduncle 2-4 cm. Pedicel 3-7 mm. Perianth tube ca. 2 mm, with few protuberances; Perianth limb pink, funnelform, 6-8 mm, deciduous. Stamens 2-4. Ovary elliptic. Stigma peltate. Fruit obconic, 6-7 mm, longitudinally 10-ribbed, with minute glands. Fl. and fr. Jun-Sep.

One interesting feature I observed that the Stamens and carpels were straight projecting out during morning while they were in the coiled manner when I saw them in the late afternoon and evening.Attaching one morning and other evening picture.
