Persicaria barbata from Delhi:
Persicaria barbata (L.) Hara (syn: Polygonum barbatum L.) from Delhi, growing along banks of River Yamuna, Wazirabad.

The seeds are used in griping colic pain in Kalahandi area of Orissa state whereas, the aerial parts possess antinociceptive, anti- inflammatory and diuretic properties. Roots are used as an astringent and cooling remedy. Decoction of leaves and shoots is used as a stimulating wash for ulcers, acting as a good healer of the scarred tissue. A paste of the root is used externally in the treatment of scabies. (Source:  Kirtikar and Basu, 1935 and others).

This is common, possibly annual, in ditches or marshes.
Leaves subseesile, may be cordate, margin possibly serrulate (or with stiff hairs?) as can be seen in the 4th pic.; ochreal cilia equal to tube length.

Yes, I think the ID is correct.

Thanks for this post. I think  you need to recheck the ID for this plant.

The Plant List mentions Persicaria decipiens (R.Br.) K.L. Wilson as the accepted name for Polygonum serrulatum Lag.
Moreover, your photos do not match with the images available on net:

Missed your feedback yesterday, didn’t receive email. Yes, I have seen the accepted name in The Plant List. But, I have deliberately used the name/entry in FBI or Bengal Plants or in Botany of Bihar and Orissa for reason I will explain eventually.

“Perianth color is variable and taxonomically less important (atleast in Persicaria)”
I think I can ignore what FoZ shows or displays. Please note :
  1. As per FBI/BP/BoBO perianth colour white in Indian plants
  2. raceme stout short
  3. leaves subsesiile and glabrous with slightly strigillose (or glabrous) margin
  4. cillia not longer than ochrea tube
Thank you

I agree that it doesn’t look like the one in FoZ, but at the same time neither the other uploads in eFI, except one which is not clear, looks like the one in FoZ !!!
There is an interesting account, on Polygonum serrulatum Lagasc., in Haines.
FoP has its say – http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5&taxon_id=242100108.
Perhaps, as FoP says, following taxa also need to be taken account of –

  1. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5&taxon_id=242100101
  2. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=242339606
  3. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5&taxon_id=242100090
There is ample provision to get confused by the descriptions in the above links.
However, attached here some more photographs, that I think of the same plant species, recorded elsewhere in some other time.

The ID is wrong. A doc can be found on Indian species – http://www.cibtech.org/SRIVASTAVA-FAMILY-INDIA.pdf
There is no Polygonum serrulatum Lagasc. in India, instead it is non Lag., synonym of Polygonum longisetum deBruyn and I am not sure if my plant or those of eFI can be same. It is getting very very complicated.

After all the discussion I think it should be Persicaria longiseta
