The flowers of this genus are similar among its species. As such I have no clear feature to tell. But the sight reminds of P. chinensis.
There is light green, seemingly amplexicaule leaf (or bract) – that helps me, may help others to validate OR comment otherwise.

: Climber, much branched : Leaves and young twigs with sheath. : ca. 1800 m asl. Polygonum chinense, perhaps. By description in flora,..P. chinesis is a herb, up to 1 m tall, but the present study is a climber ca. 4 m long. However, inflorescence and fruiting pattern matching with P. chinensis. I also check it for P. convolvulus (Climber), but differing in spike like inflorescence. just because something seems to be a climber and growing tall does not negate the its identity, to my mind Same as in cancer tumors that grow into mass and stay that way while in somebody else may spread and spread..we have a ” seed and soil” theory for cancer growth … mother nature being what it is must play the same design in growth in all biological systems , up to a point…

In Shantiniketan on the grounds of Gurudev’s homestead and other huts/homes there is a vining tree, I want to say mango but it may be something else, I have forgotten’ but its a normally a nice large tree, erect stout.. … but there in that garden its “vining” , one of the brothers or nephews noticed it early on and gave such support as to let it vine…. after almost nearly 100 years its still in that form..

A small tree seen in Mahabaleshwar 8th Nov 2009. Small white flowers, somewhat like Polygonaceae. Black fruits like Lantana.
Alternate leaves as seen in picture. My first reaction was Persicaria chinensis. Is it really woody plant? This is Polygonum auriculata. Have a look at following link.. Polygonum auriculata is synonym of Persicaria chinensis. It is good we thought similarly. I had seen this plant only once 15 years back. It is not tree but a perennial herb, sometimes climbing. That’s right … It was not a tree. Some plants were small seen by road side, while one in our Hotel (Ramsukh) some drooping branches were observed. Excellent pic for id. Not the first time that BSI nomenclature has provided food for thought and discussion. ‘Polygonum auriculata’ is called ‘Paral’ ‘परळ’ in Marathi.

This Red Knotweed was seen at Mizoram. Yes! Persicaria chinensis var. ovalifolia (Meisn.) H. Hara. Color variation can be seen in perianth. Common in NE India.

I tried all Polygonaceae but did not find a match. Is it too Persicaria chinensis (L.) H. Gross ?? Yes this is Persicaria chinense var. ovalifolia (Meisn.) H. Hara. One may get confused with other species of Persicaria because of its broadly ovate bracts which are prominently visible here at the terminal ends. This species is highly polymorphic and is represented by four varieties.

I am not quite sure whether these are flowers or buds but they were seen at a number of places in Upper Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. Some were growing at amidst the profusion of vegetation at shoulder height, and some I found growing just off the ground at Mayodia Pass, altitude 2655m.
I request identification please? May it be a Polygonum, P. capitatum (the knotweed) ? It is identified as Persicaria strigosa. Incidentally, I found the Pink Knotweed to be very common in Upper Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. All along the road and even on stone culverts this weed was growing profusely. This minute character may not be clearly visible in the picture. A specimen will help in this typical case where 2 species are very close to each other. Also seen in the picture is the characteristic of Polygonaceae family…………… sheathing leaf base of modified stipules called as ochrea which is brown and tubular in this genus. Ochreate stiplue is digonestic character of Polygonaceae only genus Antigonon sp doesn’t have this character it an exception. thanks for the update Ochrea is present in Antigonon, only it is deciduous (caducous would be a better term).

Beautiful flowers indeed. It is difficult to guess the flower size. The pic of the flowers were taken last December …so i cant provide with the details about it.
