I have repeatedly announced about omissions in the Plant List, this is there (as synonym as I had written): Illegitimate means name is not properly published and can’t be used (or considered for selecting a correct name) as correct name, but it is definitely cited among synonyms.

I found a couple of clematis vines in flower yesterday and observed one growing on a roadside fence. These flowers had no aroma to speak of. … had helped identify it last year and … had pointed out three variations of C. montana and that some C. montana are intact odourless. Could we ascertain which variation this is with available photos? Please advise

These fragrant white roses are out and I had previously thought them to be Rosa brunonii or the Himalayan Musk Rose. These ones have four petals and Col Collett describes 4-petal ones as Rosa sericea but his book has no illustration of the species. Please advise.

7 April 2015 The attached image is of Clematis montana, a member of family Ranunculaceae. Rosa sericea is a shrub of higher altitudes. Thank you very much. I was looking in the wrong direction. I stand corrected, Clematis montana it is. The only Clematis species I had noticed here before was C. connata. This adds to the list. While trying to show my 9-year-old daughter Clematis montana, I found this similar odourless flower.
The petals are closer together and leaves larger. Please advise.

The new Clematis? http://www.sarahraven.com/clematis_montana_wilsonii.htm ?? Sitting here in West Bengal and being totally unfamiliar with your flora I should have refrained myself…..! Flora of British India informs C. montana flowers are often scented. It means flowers can be non odorous too! Perhaps this and surely other variations have been noted by FoC – http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200007684.
From your mail it appears to me that you think it is something similar to C. montana but not exactly the species. As per FoC at least three var. is distributed in India – 1) var. brevifolia 2) montana and 3) longipes. The third one has larger leaf and flowers. And C. montana can have obovate sepals with rounded to emarginate apices. Please check probability of C. montana var. longipes based on your flower and leaf size. When I googled Clematis montana, googled shown a white color flower and I had something diffrent in my cam . Than, when, I read the VoF book by Shri Keshav Murti to realise that these are probably fruits! Kindly validate my assumption. I have already written about that “the flowering must have been over”. This plant generally flowers in early summer. …, beautiful flowers. I think the fruiting has started. Is C.wightiana different from this. You may be right, but it has many accepted varieties as per Flora of China, but none shown by Flora of Pakistan & Annotated checklist of Flowering plants of Nepal

Looking at the shape, size and number of petals it looks matching with Clematis montana Buch.-Ham. ex DC.. C. montana yes possible, not C. lasiantha a species from California not expected in W.
