Dear colleagues
the plants from Harwan, Fortnight and also Camargue, France, are R. trichphyllus Chaix. The plant from Dhorpata needs to be checked for R. himalaicus Tamura. Correct taxonomy below:
Ranunculus aquatilis L., Sp. Pl.: 556 (1753). – Type from Europe (Netherlands or Sweden). The species is restricted to temperate Europe with some extensions to the southern Medterranean and West Asia. Other mentionings are based on misidentification.
= Ranunculus aquaticus Neck., Delic. Gallo-Belg.: 242 (1768). -Type from France, may as well be regarded as orthographic variant of R. aquatilis L.
Ranunculus trichophyllus Chaix, Pl. Vapinc.: 31 (1785), nom. cons. prop. – Type from France. The species occurs in the northern hemisphere and may be on the Australian mainland. Other mentionings are misidentifications.
≡ Ranunculus trichophyllus Chaix in Villars, Hist. Pl. Dauph. 1: 335 (1786).
≡ Batrachium trichophyllum (Chaix) Bosch, Prodr. Fl. Bat.: 7 (1850). – Batrachium is no longer being regarded a separate genus but a section of Ranunculus.
= Ranunculus peucedanifolius All., Fl. Pedem. 2: 53 (1785), nom. rej. prop. – Type from Italy.
= Ranunculus aquatilis L. var. diffusus Withering, Arr. Brit. Pl. ed., 3, 2: 507 (1796). – Type from Britain.
– Ranunculus aquatilis L. var. diffusus sensu Whittemore et auct. amer. – An ambiguous taxon which contains several species, besides R. trichophyllus also R. longirostris Godr., R. subrigidus W.B. Drew, R. codyanus Boivin, and may be others.
Ranunculus himalaicus Tamura, J.Geobot. 26(3), 68, 9 (1978); Rajbhabdari & Rai, Handb. Fl. Pl, Nepal 1: 420 (2020); Kumar Ghimire et al., Fl. Kailash. Sacr. Landscape Nepal 1: 259 (2021). – Type from Nepal.
