sona champa? never heard,
but then not a mangrove visitor myself.. may be locas might have called it that in deep sunderbans…
MY REAL QUESTION was as aI looked at the flower…why cylindrica?

Found this name listed by BSI – ENVIS at http://www.bsienvis.nic.in/mangroves/disp_records.asp?itemno=42, and there are one OR few more links giving this name. It could be the like-fragrance, not sure.
Here, the flowering stage is past – the stage is of propagules’ growth.
Perhaps it is the cylindrical shape of propagule that the epithet refers.
Those familiar with mangroves may please help clarify.
