Ophiorrhiza treutleri

Ophiorrhiza treutleri Hook.f., Fl. Brit. India 3: 83 1880.;

Assam; East Himalaya as per Catalogue of Life;

Stems 10-35cm, herbaceous, slightly fleshy crisped white hirsute. Leaves equal, elliptic, 3-10 x 1.5-5cm, acute, base cuneate, thinly pilose above, paler beneath with prominent crisped pubescent veins; stipules spreading, ovate acuminate often split, sparsely hairy, sometimes 2-3, compact in flower, c 2-3 x 1.5-2.5cm, becoming clearly branched in fruit with branches 2-3cm, cripsed pubescent; peduncle 0-3cm. Bracts and bracteoles linear oblong ciliate 1 nerved, 7-11mm, persistant. Calyx 1.5-2mm, teeth 0.75-1.5mm. Corolla 10-12mm, white or pink, drying yellow, crisped-pilose outside, long-pubescent inside; lobes narrowly ovate, erect, acute, c 3mm. Capsule pubescent, 6-8mm wide.

In moist forest, sometimes on rocks, in coniferous plantations.

Rubiaceae herb for id from Darjeeling:: NS Sept 10 : 6 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (4).

This soft and pubescent wildly growing herb was shot from premises of LBG, Darjeeling..
Please suggest the id..is this some Ophiorrhiza sp. ??

It seems to be interesting. this is of course an ophiorrhia species. bud i cant identify th ID.

This is Ophiorrhiza nutans Clarke ex Hook.f.

You have seen the plant, know the flower size, please tell us what’s your view so that I can ignore flower description in FoC or in FBI. Else the herb features go more with O. n.

The flower was about 6-8 mm across, tube length around 4-6 mm..
I was very casual while taking the pics..but from description on FOC, this seems to match more with O. rugosa ..further views and expert opinion will help..

Yes Sir, this is for experts. Though flowers are smaller than what should be of O. nutans C. B. Clarke (about 16 mm as per FBI; 6.5 to 19 mm in FoC ), the stem and leaves (margin undulate) seem to be closer to O. nutans. Stipules or bracts do not help much.
