Small tree for identification 240712MK02:

Please help me to identify this tree found in a cardamom estate in Vaalparai of western ghats.
Leaflet: 8×3 cm; fruits measures 2.5 cm across.
Place: Vaalparai, TN
Date: 13 July 2012
Habitat: near rain forest
Alt: 950 m asl

Probably it is Aglaia leptantha Miq.
Reference http://www.asianplant/Meliaceae/Aglaia_leptantha.htm

The leaves are very different in A.leptantha; and it is not reported from Tamil Nadu until now. Could this be Garuga floribunda?

Could it be Spondias bipinnata?

This is Clausena anisata belongs to Rutaceae

Thanks …, first I also doubted this to be a Rutaceae but there is hardly any fragrance and glands in leaves.

I confirmed this as Rutaceae as I could well smell the aromatic leaves.

Could this be Clausena indica?

This is Clausena anisata only not C.indica

Kindly identify this wild shrub found growing in the Arunachala reserve forest, Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu.
The 6-9 mm diameter pale green fruit, with translucent skin when ripe, has a sweet pulp with a lemony flavour. It is called nana pazham by the locals. The shrubs attains a height of about 3 metres. Leaves are about 3 cms in length.

This appears to be a Clausena sp. of Rutaceae; either C. indica (Dalz.) Oliver or Clausena austroindica Stone & K.N. Nair (Syn.:  Cheptaphylla sensu Hook.f.)

It could be Clausena anisata. Also called in Tamil as ‘Kattu karivaeppilai’ (= wild curry leaf).

It seems to me some species of Clausena of Rutaceae

Most probably it is Clausena indica

I think it is Clausena dentata
You can check it here :
http://www.pitchandikulam-herbarium.org/herbarium.php?id=42

This is Clausena species for sure. I have seen this plant in  Chennai. Used for diabetes. How about Clausena anisata ?

From the photographs and information on the pitchandikulam herbarium referred above I would concur that the species here is Clausena dentataClausena anisata description says that the fruit ripens to red or purplish black. this is not the case with this plant since here the ripe fruit is translucent pale green to white.

Clausena dentata of Rutaceae?

Pl. persue Clausena
From here it is inferred that Clausena dentata (Willd.) M.Roem. is a synonym of Clausena anisata (Willd.) Hook.f. ex Benth.

The plants in these pictures look like  Clausena anisata  (Willd.) Hook.f. ex Benth. var. anisata  (Syn: Clausena dentata (Willd.) M. Roemer (RUTACEAE).

To identify a unknown plant: 2 very high res. images.

I found a unknown plant at my visit in farm. Leaf taste is like saunf, please help to identify a plant images are attached
Location : Barkal Gujarat
Date : 11 March 2022

Euphorbiaceae member ???

Yes sir I think its Croton sp.

I could not find a match as per comparative images at Croton.

It reminds me of Murraya paniculata.

But if I’m not wrong Murraya paniculata has big white flowers?

Sorry I do not recognise this plant….. but I do not believe it is a match for Murraya paniculata.
See  my images below.
https://www.flickr.com/Murraya%20paniculata&view_all=1

The leaves match with Murraya  paniculata and they are aromatic, as mentioned by … I’m guessing the posted plant is in a stressed condition which accounts for the shrivelled flower buds. Of course it is quite unlike the garden cultivated “kamini” most people are familiar with.

I have zoomed in to see the detail on the flower.
It is extremely clear.
Does this change any ones thoughts.

Detail on image is amazing.
P.S.

Buds look really plump and healthy.
No sign of being shriveled.
Any chance of any more pics?

So sorry…wish I could edit!

Finding this fascinating.
Need more thoughts!
Herbarium. says Corolla 5……up to 10 straight stamens.
Zooming in to mystery flower it clearly shows bud in round 4 part balls.

I hope you can come up with a better guess than mine!

Murraya paniculata can have either 4 or 5 petals and up to 10 stamens.

It is not Murraya paniculata. I have Murraya in my garden.

This appears to be Clausena anisata (Willd.) Hook.f. ex Benth. [Rutaceae].
I assume it was cultivated.
The species name (anisata) alludes to the crushed leaves being akin to saunf (aniseed) as remarked by …

Thank you sir for your help
I’m reattaching image of plant.

Thank you. perfect ! I would say spot on.
I was positive it wasn’t Murraya paniculata …but hadn’t a clue what it was.
On www I have found a pic of the flower buds in round 4 part balls, that match perfectly with what I could see in the images.
Google search

I am so thrilled that it has been id’d!
More re Clausena anisata.
https://commons.wikimedia.Clausena_anisata02.jpg

I’m sure … is right.
It had to be a Rutaceae member. I had discounted Clausena early on because the leaves are so unlike those I have seen in the wild. It seems they are variable.
