Eravikulam National Park :: Casearia ovata :: DV04JUL : 6 posts by 3 authors. 5 images. Very nice microscopic photo those familiar with Casearia species … please take a re-look at the photos to check for wrong identification. The leaf does not seem to match that of C. ovata (in which the leaf stalk, above has a characteristic groove towards the leaf base, and the margin has hint of being crenate / dentate) or that of C. graveolens (in which the leaf has crenulate margin). Put here are cropped versions of my posted photos for closer look …
… the flower cluster, the flower about 3 mm across … the fruits, about 10 mm across
This appears to be Casearia rubescens Dalz. as per images herein. Thank you very much, …, for this possible ID. I hope it is validated soon.
I am convinced … this must be Casearia rubescens.
Correcting my notes at flickr. I have based my thoughts on the basis of the conspicuous reddish-brown petiole and the midrib … seen in the last photo of posted pictures.
The reddish brown petiole and midrib of the leaf could be the reasoning for the epithet – rubescens. Yes, … Appears so.
