This species is not so common. These photographs are taken from Yachuli, near Yachuli Forest Rest House, Hapoli Forest House, Lower Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh.
Populus gamblei Dode
Large to medium-sized, lofty deciduous tree, 15-20 m high; branches long, spreading; Leaves alternate, simple; blades ovate. Catkin solitary, axillary, appearing with the leaves in the axil of leaf scars, sessile. Male catkins slender, cylindrical, pendulous, lax-flowered; male flowers pedicellate; bracteate; stamens 12-20; filaments glabrous. Infructescence 13-15.5 cm long; capsules oblong, linear; seeds many, broadly ellipsoid, with tufts of persistent and spreading hairs from base.
Fl.:February-March; Frt.: April-May.
Distribution: INDIA (West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland); BHUTAN.
