The leaves have very strong smell and are eaten as salad in NE India;

They eat the plant as chutny;

HOUTTUYNIA CORDATA: In my childhood at a village called Matua (Now in Bangladesh), I knew about a plant which we called AICH. It had a aromatic flavour. Next time I saw this plant at Tezpur. In Assam they call it MUSUNDARI. They eat the plant as chutny. Flowers of the Himalaya by Polunin helped me to identify this plant to be Houttynia cordata. It is a herbaceous plant with broadly ovate-hear-shaped leaves. Attaching an image of the plant.

I think id by … is right

Perhaps this population should be worth investigating. Houttuynia cordata has clearly cordate leaves, whereas above plant has leaf base cuneate almost passing on petiole. A second species H. emeinsis was described in 2005 from China. It would be interesting to know the differences.

I think this is H. cordata only.

H. emeinsis is considered a synonym of H. cordata now.

Plant new to me. Found many amazing facts about this plant while browsing. Flowers are borne on terminal spikes and the white petal like structures are white basal bracts. In the north-eastern states it is used as a leaf vegetable. Sharing an interesting aspect which I found while browsing.
