Attaching a collage of Typha elephantina (HOGLA).

Very nice!
reminds me of cat tails in the swampy areas in eastern usa.

of course that is Typha latifolia. different sp.

A collage ……. left side is Typha latifolia…. midrib can be seen in leaf.

Middle one Typha angustifolia. Probably right one too.

Both species are abundant in Surat.

As per details available in the image, id may be correct as leaves look broad and the cross- section of the leaf also appears close as per keys in Flora of Pakistan.

In Kolkata on 1/3/08. What these long reeds in which it is generally seen called (Scientific name etc.)?

Cat-tail (Typha spp., Typhaceae). eg. Typha latifolia, T. angustifolia

looking at broader leaves and distinct keel on lower surface of leaves it seems Typha  elephantina
