Trees about 30-60 ft tall.<\/font> Young shoots tomentose, branches with prominent leaf scars. Leaves simple, spirally arranged, ovate-elliptic or obovate-elliptic, 16-46 x 5-19 cm across, base acute or obtuse, margins entire or very faintly serrate, apex obtuse or rounded, chartaceous, strigose mainly on the nerves beneath, lateral veins 15-22 on either side of the midrib, ascending obscure, impressed above, prominent, hirsute on the veins, glabrescent when mature beneath, reticulate veinlets, petioles stout, about 1-5 cm long. Flowers yellow, solitary on shoots or 2-7 flowered clusters near the shoots of older branches, of about 2.5 x 3 cm across, pedicels thick at apex, about 5-10 mm long, bracts, foliaceous, lanceolate or spathulate, sessile, apex acute, caducous, hirsute, about 8-11 x 3-4 mm across, Calyx 5 toothed, sepals ovate, obtuse or acute, coriaceous, reddish, pubescent, about 8-12 x 4-9 mm across, Corolla 5 lobed, petals obovate, yellow, apex obtuse or rounded, about 15-19 x 5-9 cm across, Stamens free, numerous, almost equal in length in 2 series, the outer numerous, inwardly curved, inner outwardly curved, about 9 mm long, anthers linear, slightly emarginated at the apex, pinkish blue. Carpels 58, around the conical receptacle, with 2 rows of ovules up to 30, styles curved, about 9 mm long, Fruits pseudocarps indehiscent, enclosed by enlarged thickened sepals, about 2.5-3 cm in diameter, subglobose, orange when ripe. Fruiting carpels 1-2 seeded, seeds ovoid, about 5 mm, dark brown to black.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Evergreen to semi evergreen forests, altitude up to 3300 ft.<\/font><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Description: Evergreen tree. Bark greyish-brown; young shoots tomentose. Leaves elliptic-obovate 15-45 x 5-20 cm, entire or crenate, coriaceous, glabrescent at maturity; lateral nerves 12-20 pairs. Flowers white turning yellow, 7-9 cm across, in few flowered racemes or in clusters on old branches; pedicels about 1cm long, silky. Stamens\u00a0 numerous; anthers\u00a0 linear. Carpels 5, styles 5, free. Pseudocarp 2-3cm in dia., 1-2 seeded; seeds ovoid, dark reddish-brown to black, glabrous. <\/font>(flowers missing\u00a0in our collection)<\/font><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n
