My Pending Identifications: Chakrata-Shrub 1:: NS MARCH 08 : 6 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (5).

This id is long pending.. please help, this shrub was shot from Chakrata-Budher road,

flowering was over, only fruits were visible, can this be a legume?

I can only wish I had dissected the fruit, to make the things little clearer..

Does not look like a legume. Hope to get Id.

Tiliaceae member (Grewia sp.) ?

After long, a convincing input has been received on facebook group.

Which says, this can be a Berchemia sp.

This does not match with Berchemia floribunda, posted by …, I hope this can be one from B. lineata or B. edgeworthii, though flowers are required to finally conclude.

Thanks, … Appears closer to Berchemia lineata as per the following

http://www.efloras.org/general_object_page.aspx?object_id=1515

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berchemia_lineata#/291).jpg

rather than Berchemia edgeworthii as per the following:

http://frps.eflora.cn/frps/Berchemia%20edgeworthii

http://www.efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=67205&flora_id=5

Thanks a lot … for pertinent links, and they are quite convincing too…!!

While reviewing this genera in efi, I feel it should be Berchemia edgeworthii M. A. Lawson in J. D. Hooker (although habit image is missing) as per

Keys in Flora of China and FoC illustration

Fruits are stated to be “Drupe yellowish green when young, dark blue and waxy at maturity, globose to ovoid to ellipsoid, 5-6 mm, to 3 mm in diam., with persistent disk and calyx tube at base; fruiting pedicel 4.5-5 mm, pilose” and “Flowers white, very small, 4-5 mm in diam., in terminal cymose racemes or in fascicles of few to 10 in leaf axils” as per Flora of China in Berchemia lineata (Linnaeus) Candolle (? India)

While they are “Drupe orange or purple at maturity, cylindric, 7-9 mm, 3-4 mm in diam., with inconspicuous remnants of disk and calyx tube at base; mesocarp sweet; fruiting pedicel 2-4 mm, glabrous” and “Flowers white, 2.5-3 mm in diam., glabrous, solitary or 2- or 3-fascicled in axils of leaves” in Berchemia edgeworthii M. A. Lawson in J. D. Hooker.

Also matches with specimen in GBIF from the area.

Flora of Pakistan and Checklist of Nepal does not mention Berchemia lineata (Linnaeus) Candolle. Flora of Pakistan mentions Berchemia lineata auct. non DC. as a syn. of Berchemia edgeworthii Lawson in Hook. f.

Comparative images support the ID …

Thanks a lot … for concluding it, finally..

Thanks … for your inputs too..
