Beautiful photographs of Phryma leptostachya (Phrymaceae).

Thanks, …

But taxonomy seems quite confusing:

The Plant List (2010) gives two accepted names:

1. Phryma leptostachya L. (with record 153193 showing
distribution as Temperate Asia & Temp. N.America) Phryma leptostachya var. leptostachya )

2. Phryma leptostachya var. oblongifolia (Koidz.) Honda (with record 153196
showing distribution as Temperate Asia)

However
Flora of Pakistan & Annotated checklist of the flowering plants of Nepal only mention Phryma leptostachya L.

However, as per GRIN (2004), only
Phryma leptostachya L. var. oblongifolia (Koidz.) Honda have range in Indian Subcontinent) & Phryma leptostachya L. var. leptostachya does not have any range here.

Does that mean that our species is Phryma leptostachya L. var. oblongifolia (Koidz.) Honda ?

Pl. clarify in view of confusing details.

Yes the species from Uttarakhand belongs to P.leptostachya var. oblongifolia.

Checked with eFlora of China and found that our plant is, however, subsp. asiatica (H. Hara) Kitamura, which differs from American type in bilobed upper lip of corolla, longer calyx tube (2.5-3.2 mm), adaxial calyx teeth shorter than tube (1.2-2.3 mm long).

seems to be

Only Phryma leptostachya var. oblongifolia L. is mentioned in Annotated checklist of the flowering plants of Nepal

There are two, both of them …!

Phryma

No. As they have not provided any details under Phryma leptostachya L., they have only one variety given as Phryma leptostachya var. oblongifolia L.

If they had both varieties, they would have also mentioned Phryma leptostachya var. leptostachya like other variety mentioned by them.

This is how Checklist of Nepal had made its observations in this site, as I see it regularly.

There seems to be some confusion/ updation in its nomenclature:

WCSP gives as below:

Phryma oblongifolia Koidz., Bot. Mag. (Tokyo) 43: 400 (1929).- Distribution: Temp. Asia to Vietnam (including Nepal)

(syn: Phryma humilis Koidz., Acta Phytotax. Geobot. 8: 192 (1939).

Phryma leptostachya var. humilis (Koidz.) H.Hara, Enum. Spermatophytarum Japon. 1: 297 (1948).

Phryma leptostachya var. oblongifolia (Koidz.) Honda, Bot. Mag. (Tokyo) 50: 608 (1936). )

Phryma nana Koidz., Acta Phytotax. Geobot. 8: 191 (1939). Distribution: Japan.

(syn: Phryma asiatica (H.Hara) O.Deg. & I.Deg., Phytologia 22: 212 (1971).

Phryma leptostachya var. asiatica H.Hara, Enum. Spermatophytarum Japon. 1: 297 (1948). ;

Phryma leptostachya subsp. asiatica (H.Hara) Kitam., Acta Phytotax. Geobot. 17: 7 (1957). ;

Phryma leptostachya var. nana (Koidz.) H.Hara, Enum. Spermatophytarum Japon. 1: 297 (1948). )

So our plant should be Phryma oblongifolia Koidz.

Catalogue of life lumps these two along with others at
Phryma leptostachya L.
