Thanks for sharing these beautiful pics. I have never seen such long thalamus in R. sceleratus as seen in fourth image. Or may be it looks that way in the picture.

I have seen R. sceleratus growing in Kashmir where they grow medium sized in wet places, the ones along banks of Tikkar tal lake in Morni were on gravely soil and much smaller, but those that grow along margins of ponds and lakes in Delhi grow very tall, sometimes up to 80-90 cm. These are grown in our botanical garden where they fruit very well and show good fruiting especially when watering is withdrawn. This was one such plant.

Yes, … this should be Ranunculus sceleratus L. very common these days (26.2.13) in our area (Panipat, Haryana) also… nice clicks..

Thanks for sharing the detailed images. Not doubting your ID…..just informing that some other Ranunculus have also been reported from W. Bengal. You may find this Taiwania paper useful.

The Ranunculus document is excellent, it informs i can expect R. diffusus DC. var. diffusus, R. sardosus, R. muricatus in South Bengal. Besides, there are some more in North Bengal. The distribution maps are fantastic, and those illustrations.

I saw one R. sceleratus flowering a couple of days back and took some photos to show the habit and different leaves. The plant was about 26cm tall with the single flower measuring only 1.3cm across. The flower-stem (pedicel) was 2cm, leaf-stem for basal leaves 7cm and the tripartite basal leaves were about 3-4cm x 3-4cm.
