Location: Bhawdan Hill, Wai region

Habitat: Wild

Plant Habit: Herb

is this not aloe vera?

rather a cactus

This is Deccan Caralluma [Caralluma adscendens]. Will send you some of my photographs.

Photographed at my farm. Will send photographs of the flowers later.

The Irula peoples from the Pillur Ghats, Coimbatore district eat the young stems. I also tasted many time.

I think I have seen them somewhere being sold in the market.

The aerial parts of both young and mature plants can be eaten, but younger plants are preferred. Older plants have medicinal properties and, I believe, are used for the treatment of Herpes.

You have seen it and also snapped it`s flower.

In Marathi it is called as “Makadshingi” & is used as vegetable in time of scarcity
