Thampanai is a rare and little known species of tree peculiar to the island of Sri Lanka and South India.

It is described as a long leathery, linear-oblong obtuse-leaved tree. Spolia Zeylanica (1909, p 153) says that this tree occurs sparingly by the rivers. The tree may grow up to 30-40 feet high. Its wood, pink or pinkish white in colour, is moderately hard and is used for building. The wood also is said to be durable in water. The tree sprouts twice a year in February and in September and the young foliage is brownish red in colour.

Kolkata, December 2021 :: Mischodon zeylanicus :: ARK2022-022: 5 high res. images.

This was clicked at the Indian Botanic Garden (AJBC Garden) at Shibpur, Howrah, WB in December 2021.

Nameplate identified it as Mischodon zeylanicus.

I guess pics of this tree are already present in the efi database.

Luckily I observed it in the flowering stage.

I guess the correct ID !

Nice upload of a very distinct species under Picrodendreae family. For the first time I am coming across this family.
