Shrubs; branchlets tetragonous towards the upper part of each internode, terete below. Leaves to 13 x 5.5 cm, ovate-oblong, acute at apex, subsessile, brown when dried, nerves about 12 pairs, subdistinct. Cymes 2.5 cm across, densely branched. Flowers 4 mm across, many-together; calyx teeth acute; petals 2.2 x 1.5 cm, ovate, acute, bluish white, filaments 1.5 mm long, anthers 1.5 mm long, curved; style 3 mm long. Berry 7 mm across. <\/font><\/div>\n

This is not M. umbellatum<\/i> sir. Leaves should be distinctly petiolate but image no. 32 shows amplexicaule leaves.<\/div>\n

As per the key provided in JCB<\/font><\/a> it leads to Memecylon malabaricum<\/i> (C.B.Clarke) Cogn.<\/font><\/a> but please wait for confirmation from others.<\/p>\n

I checked the images of both M.umbellatum<\/i> and M.malabaricum<\/i>\u00a0in the Digital Flora of Karnataka with reference to the keys.The leaves in M.umbellatum<\/i> are little bit petiolate rather than sessile-sub sessile as in M.malabaricum<\/i>. Considering the sessile leaves and sub-sessile cluster of flowers in the uploaded specimen, it might be M.malabaricum<\/i> as you have pointed out.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

very nice complete set as usual. i did not see the “Branches tetragonous towards the upper part of each internode<\/span>”\u00a0may be i am missing the point? do not these flowers starting out as blue?<\/p>\n
