& as discussed in one of the Indiantreepix thread

Here is the illustration of Pterospermum reticulatum, whose leaves also look similar at (but stated to be threatened & endemic to Western Ghats):

Pterospermum sp of Malvaceae (Earlier Sterculiaceae) family. Most probably P. divesifolium

The first picture may be P. canescens, not sure though.

The second picture looks like P. xylocarpum.

Yes it look like P.xylocarpum

Could it be P.suberifolium, if its not a syn.

I agree with … First image may be of Pterospermum suberifolium (syn. Pterospemum canescens Roxb.), while the 2nd one may be of Pterospermum xylocarpum

To it looks like Pterospermum reticulatum, rather P.suberifolium

You mean the 1st image?

all 3 are of same; but the age of the pod differs

But to me looks different from images at Pterospermum reticulatum Wight & Arn. (which is in Vunerable List)

Rather I find these more closer to images at Pterospermum xylocarpum (Gaertn.) Santapau & Wagh

Attached are pictures of Pterospermum suberifolium captured at Hiranandani Powai, Mumbai in January 2013.

Requested to validate the ID.

There are two

1. Pterospermum suberifolium (L.) Lam. (syn: Pterospennum canescens Roxb.)

2. Pterospermum xylocarpum (syn. Pterospermum suberifolium Willd.)

Which out of the two are you talking about ?

The 3rd picture shows buds (also a flower) and perhaps bracteoles.

Are “bracteoles” of BSI same as “bracts”( in KEY 4a, 4b, 8a…) of BSI?

I assume what I see in the 3rd pic are bracteoles under the buds. Since these bracteoles are not linear it is not P. suberifolium (L.) Lam.

In the 5th pic capsule/fruit looks like having obtuse angle whereas in the 4th and 6th pics it is not clear to me if those capsules are terete or not.

Moreover, I fail to decide if leaves have oblique or symmetrical base.

I am unable to suggest any probability.

Thanks very much for your analysis.

This garden has 2 trees, both of which are P. suberifolium (I was told). The pics are clicked on 2 different occasions, pics 2, 3, 4 and 7 are clicked in January 2015 and pics 1, 5 and 6 in January 2015. I remember that one of the trees was fruiting profusely in January 2015.

…, I honestly do not know which P. suberifolium this might be as I was given these names by the experts.

Hopefully, this ID gets resolved.

As per efi thread:

1. P. acerifolium has 25 cm long peltate leaves and 15 cm long flowers.

2. P. canescens (syn. of Pterospermum suberifolium (L.) Lam.) has 10 cm long rounded leaves with cream coloured tomentum beneath and 5 cm long flowers,

3. P. xylocarpum has 20 cm long cordate leaves and 5 cm long flowers.

Please provide approx. leaf and flower size so that we could arrive at a probable ID.
