Perennial herbs, tomentose with eglandular forked trichomes, about 10-50 cm tall. Rootstocks slender, taproot. Stem erect, woody near the base, ascending, leafy, simple or branched from the caudex and above. Basal leaves simple, somewhat in rosulate, variable, oblanceolate-obovate to linear oblong-elliptic, about 1.5-5 x 0.5-2 cm across, base cuneate to shallow attenuate, margin entire to sinuately dentate, apex acute to subacute, petiole about 0.5-2.5 cm long, cauline leaves gradually smaller, upper ones becoming linear, base not auriculate, margin entire, dentate to pinnatisect, petiole short to subsessile. Inflorescence racemes, 3-15 flowered, up to 5-10 cm long in fruit, elongated in fruit, lax, ebracteate. Flowers bisexual, purplish maroon, brownish, greenish brown, pedicel erect, divaricate, stout, thinner than the fruit, ascending, about 2-10 mm long, sepals 4, linear oblong, inner lateral pair base saccate, about 8-12 x 1.2-1.5 mm across, petals 4, obovate-oblong to spathulate, margins entire, flat or rolled inwards circinately, apex obtuse, about 10-15 x 1.2-1.5 mm across, claw compressed, about 1 cm long. Stamens 6, tetradynamous, filaments not dilated near the base, lateral pair about 3-4 mm long, median pairs about 6-8 mm long, anthers linear-oblong, about 2.5 mm long. Ovary superior, bicarpellary, ovules 20-70. Fruit siliqua, dehiscent, linear cylindrical, terete, erect or slightly curved, latiseptate, 50-120 x 1.8-2.8 mm across, usually torulose, tomentose, valves with prominent midrib, replum rounded, septum complete, style obsolete or about 1 mm long, stigma conical, bilobed, with hornlike appendages. Seeds uniseriate, brown, compressed or flattened, ovate-ovoid, about 2-2.5 mm long, narrowly winged, about 0.5 mm long, minutely reticulate, not mucilaginous when soaked, cotyledons accumbent.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
