Anaphalis nepalensis? ABSEP2017/07 : 3 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (12)

I had intended to start with an easier species of the very complex Anaphalis genus as I start trying to make some sense of the species growing in our mountains here. After much deliberation and looking at various sources (and synonyms), I am still a little confused about the identity of this species. And since it is a variable species, it makes it even more difficult to pin down. Looking at our site and reading descriptions in Polunin & Stainton, and Col. Collett, I think our plants are A. nepalensis. FOI shows a different plant under that name adding to the confusion. A brief description in words is here:

Our plants are not very tall, about 20cm or so, have simple woolly stems with few small narrow leaves almost hugging the stem. Larger oval woolly leaves with winged petioles are crowded at the base. Flowers are few, about 1cm in diameter, with shiny white, acute bracts well-spread. I found few plants growing at about 3200m and none below.

I hope the identification is correct as per the existing taxonomy. Please advise.
