Common name: Apricot

Small tree with reddish bark, leaves ovate, glabrous, serrate, pubescent beneath on veins; flowers pinkish, 2-2.5 cm across; fruit pubescent when young smooth and yellow often flushed with red when mature, slightly flattened.

Why Shankaracharya? Any relation to our Shankarachrya?

Tempting to eat. When can we come to Kashmir to pluck them, cheries, apples from tree directly? And in your company?

Yes there is a very famous temple at the top of the hill by this name. Older name is Takhat-e-Sulaiman.

Rosaceae Fortnight- Prunus armeniaca from Himachal-GSG05/Sept 2015 : 1 post by 1 author. 1 image.

Himachal is known for its many Rosaceae fruits like apples, pears, plums, peaches and almonds. There are also many wild relatives of these fruit species in the State. In this and the following mails, I’ll be uploading some of these wild fruit tree species.

It is Prunus armeniaca, the wild apricot, locally known as ‘Chulli’. This species is now widely cultivated for its fruit that happens to be amongst the first to appear in May during peak tourist season in the State, getting local people good income. Its seed oil is now in great demand for medicinal purposes.
