Bambusa tulda<\/i> or Indian Timber Bamboo<\/b> is considered to be one of the most useful of bamboo<\/span><\/a> species. It is native to the <\/span>Indian Subcontinent<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Indochina<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Tibet<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>Yunnan<\/span><\/a>, and naturalized in <\/span>Iraq<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Puerto Rico<\/span><\/a>, and parts of <\/span>South America<\/span><\/a>.[1]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[2]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[3]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[6]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[7]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[8]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[9]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[10]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[11]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[12]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[13]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[14]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[15]<\/span><\/a>
\n<\/sup><\/span>Bambusa tulda<\/i> is used extensively by the
paper pulp<\/span><\/a> industry in India<\/span><\/a>. It can grow up to a height of 15\u00a0m, and a thickness of 8\u00a0cm. It is commonly found in southeastern Asia[16]<\/span><\/a>
\n<\/sup>It is a tall, dull green colored bamboo species with greyish green when mature. It is composed of few closely growing culms. It reaches a height of 6-23m.
\n<\/span>Young culm is green, which becomes greyish green when mature and becoming brown when drying. Young shoots are yellowish green in color with a powdery top. Culms are covered with white bloom. There is a band of white hairs above the nodes. Branching occurs from the base to top. Aerial roots reach up to few nodes above. Internode length is 30-60cm, and diameter is 0.8-1.2cm. Culm walls are very thick. Nodes are prominent.
\n<\/span>Culm sheath triangular with a conical blade. It is straw colored. Sheath proper is asymmetrical and 15-32cm in length and 25-34cm wide. Blade length is 5-10cm. Auricles are unequal where the large one is rounded and situated on the side of the blade. Upper surface of the sheath covered with blackish-brown hairs. Lower surface of the sheath is not hairy. Sheaths fall off early.
