Strobilanthes kunthiana (called as Neel-Kurinji) is reported to be flowering once in 12 years. Munnar is probably the best place to watch. Last mass flowering was in the year 2006 and next one will be in the yr 2018.

I think Karvi (Strobilanthes callosus) flowers once in 7 years.

It was flowering on one section of hill totally covered with it when he observed it.

The blooms were nearly over after 7 days when I could go there.. Still it was seen patchily in some sections.

I think it may flower in another section in October (Usual season) when I had seen it flowering in a vast area in Oct. 2006. Attaching an earlier picture of 2006.
