Leaves opposite, subsessile, 0.7-1.8 x 0.1-0.6 cm, elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate, acute, narrowed at base to petiole, membranous, scabrid above along margin and midrib below, often crystalline dots present in the lower surface; stipules 2-3 mm x 0.5-2 mm with 2-5 bristles. Flowers axillary, opposite or alternate, solitary or in 2-flowered cymes; peduncle 0.7-1 cm long; pedicel 1-1.5 cm long, distinctly ribbed, denticulate along ribs. Hypanthium ovoid, 0.3-1 mm long; calyx limb very short; lobes 4, rarely 5, 0.5-0.6 mm long ovate-lanceolate or triangular, acute, dentate at margin. Corolla about 2 mm long, white; tube 1.2-1.3 mm long, pubescent at throat; lobes 4, 0.5-0.8 x 0.5-0.6 mm, ovate, acute, incurved at apex. Stamens 4, included; filament very short, 0.2-0.3 mm long, adnate to sinus of corolla lobes; anthers 0.3-0.4 cm long, oblong. Ovary 0.3-0.7 mm long; ovules many on submedian oblong placenta, style exserted, 1-1.3 mm long; stigma bilobed, fleshy, 0.3-0.5 mm long, tufted hairy.
