eFloraofIndia website updated up to 30th Sept.\u201924: more than 14,000 species<\/a>:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s heartening to reiterate that\u00a0Efloraofindia<\/b><\/a>\u00a0is the largest google e-group\/ forum in the world\u00a0<\/b>in this field & the largest nature related e-group (and the most constructive) in India with around 4,71,200 messages so far & membership currently more than 3520 nos.<\/div>\n

efloraofindia\u00a0(eFI in short) website<\/a>\u00a0is one of the biggest non-commercial site, one\u00a0of its kind in the world & also without advertisements, based on the collection of photographic images of wild plants, where no money\u00a0or professional organisation is involved except for the selfless efforts of its members from diverse backgrounds. It is documenting the Flora of India that is being discussed on\u00a0efloraofindia\u00a0google e-group<\/a>\u00a0along with supplementing the working of the group.\u00a0It also has the largest database on the net on Indian Flora with more than 14,000 species (along with more than 4,00,000 pictures)<\/strong>, from some of the best Flora Photographers of India.\u00a0<\/strong>You can go through\u00a0Story of eFloraofIndia\u2019s journey on 15th anniversary<\/a>.\u00a0Members should add\u00a0Efloraofindia<\/a>\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0link in their favourites & give\u00a0species\u2019 links from this while posting or replying in a thread as a lot of discussed data is already available here.<\/p>\n

Intent of this\u00a0website\u00a0is compilation of all the posts on \u2018efloraofindia\u2019 e- group along with providing other details so that it\u2019s useful to all concerned as all the data about a particular\u00a0species\u00a0will be available under a single head &\u00a0easily searchable<\/b>. However, correctness of data\/ identification in the\u00a0efloraofindia\u00a0(earlier indiantreepix) links is dependent on the members\u2019 inputs in that particular link. Therefore, errors\/ mistakes cannot be ruled out- everyone is requested to point them out for corrections by sending an email to <itp\u2026@googlegroups.com<\/a>>.\u00a0Anybody can also add comments about it, at the bottom of the page.<\/div>\n

We now have images on\u00a0all\u00a0species\u00a0pages. We have simultaneously started displaying these at genera & family pages with comparative images of various\u00a0species\u00a0for easy identification (all the families except for Poaceae, Orchidaceae and Zingiberaceae already completed).\u00a0Insertion of images has also increased the accuracy of the efloraofindia database<\/a>.\u00a0More than 3,00,000 unique images have already been inserted as of 31.1.21.<\/strong><\/div>\n

More\u00a0important is the fact that thousands of observations of hundreds of our members are available here (many of which one will not find documented anywhere) & easily searchable through general web searches (after adding\u00a0efloraofindia) as well as by searching on the\u00a0Efloraofindia<\/a>\u00a0website<\/a>. And these are going to increase with every passing day. These original observations will be a treasure trove & will be a delight to a lot of people. With the pace at which new\u00a0species\u00a0are being added to our database, it should become the premier resource for taxonomic research in India. For better viewing of\u00a0species\u2019 pages, colour scheme & formatting is being followed as at the footer of every\u00a0efloraofindia\u00a0page.<\/p>\n

These days a lot of information about Indian Flora is available under\u00a0Cc-by license<\/a>\u00a0(Licensees\u00a0may\u00a0copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works based on it only if they give the author or licensor the credits in the manner specified by these). Due credits\/ attributions are to be given. Such sources include Wikipedia, India Biodiversity Portal, IUCN Red List, PFAF, Flora of Tibet\u00a0website, IBIS Flora etc. I am trying to add such information with due credits. I am also trying to add keys & summarizing the information at the top of the page (for the pages I am coming across while adding information from current threads). Genera pages are also cleaned up so that\u00a0species\u00a0(due to wrong botanical names or being syn. of some other\u00a0species) are deleted or properly connected as per the currently accepted name along with references. Future eFI genera pages will be like\u00a0Cyanotis<\/i><\/a>\u00a0depending upon the time\u00a0we get, as & when we update a genus page so that we are aware which are the\u00a0species\u00a0which are likely to be found in India (depending on the net resources) & which are already available in eFI.<\/p>\n
