It (Ageratum houstonianum) has larger and robust plants and flowerheads with more florets than A.conyzoides.
.
In A conyzoides plants and phyllaries are not that densely hairy, and heads are smaller and more spreading
.
Thicker cordate leaves and longer hairs especially on involucre bracts are clearly seen in Ageratum houstonianum.
.
Ageratum L. genus is represented in India by two species- A. conyzoides and A.houstonianum.
These closely related pantropica weed species can be differentiated as follows:
Involucral bracts linear, sharply acute-acuminate, sparsely hairy; Corolla of the florets 1.5mm long, shorter than awned pappus scale…. A. conyzoides L.
Involucral bracts linear setaceous, densely hairy; Corolla of the florets 2.5mm long, as long as or longer than awned pappus …. A. haustonianum Mill.
. Ageratum conyzoides (Billygoat-weed, Chick weed, Goatweed, Whiteweed; Ageratum conycoides L., Ageratum obtusifolium Lam., Cacalia mentrasto Vell.) is native to Tropical America, especially Brazil. Herb 0.5–1 m. high, with ovate leaves 2–6 cm long, and flowers are white to mauve.[1]
Ingesting A. conyzoides can cause liver lesions and tumors.[4][5] There was a mass poisoning incident in Ethiopia as a result of contamination of grain with A. conyzoides.[6] The plant contains the pyrrolizidine alkaloids lycopsamine and echinatine.
A. conyzoides is prone to becoming a rampant environmental weed when grown outside of its natural range. It is an invasive weed in Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and the USA.[7][8] It is considered a moderate weed of rice cultivation in Asia.[9]

Apart from identification, what is the native/invasive status of this species in India? Ageratum conyzoides… Want to confirm… Are we sure this is not Vernonia cinerea? Also important because V. cinerea is native to Africa whereas A. conyzoides is native to the Americas. … said is correct; am also agree with them, no doubt in that. now it’s very common at marshy and aquatic areas in our country( we have also, Andhra Pradesh)

It is my pleasure to share few images of Ageratum houstonianum (Asteraceae) one of the virulent colonisers of wastelands. Similar to its much more virulent cousin, A.conyzoides . This belongs to last episode, but as I found this later, I am sharing this now..
as in the previous fortnight all my Ageratum pics belonged to A. houstonianum, I was looking for A. conyzoides which I could find in a nursery near Kurukshetra..
hope the id is right and this one is Ageratum conyzoides efi page on Ageratum conyzoides Key to Ageratum can be found in – efi thread I guess only 2 sp. A. conyzoides and A. houstonianum are listed in Harayana and I guess A. conyzoides looks more close. I agree with you … for ID, . Id of another Plant of Asteraceae: 2 high res. images.
