climber for ID Hyderabad (24-09-13 NAW) : Attachments (5). 12 posts by 6 authors.
Kindly identify this climber. found at an abandoned bungalow in Hyderabad. photographed on 24th august 2013.
the white flower is roughly 2-3 cm long, spherical ‘bulb’ at bottom of flower roughly 8 mm diameter. The stem is cream with brown markings.
May be the the pelican flower –Aristolachia Indica.
Thank you sirs for the identification. Interesting that while the plant is highly toxic to humans, it forms the essential food of rare butterfly species. By when could one expect seed pods to be ready?
even if toxic, it is highly medicinal……
Aristolochia sps. but not A.indica
the flower seemed to me to be clearly white and not ‘purple’ as mentioned in the species details of Aristolochia indica. otherwise it does look very much like it. could you recommend whether taking more specific pictures would help, and what i should be looking for?
It is Aristolochia indica, the flower color, leaf base are variable in A.indica.
I think it represents A. indica
Thank you all for confirming identity. i will try to get some seeds whenever they are ready.
