While trekking from Thalathmane to Kootuhole- VIA Monnangeri, Coorg Karnataka I took this picture.
Please give ID

… I too am eager to know about this robust, erect spike.

Thank you … It indeed must be Caesalpinia mimosoides.
FFOS says it to have 30-70 cm terminal raceme; that is quite a grand raceme !!

Caesalpinia mimosoides  Lam.

yes

According to theplantlist version 1.1. it is Caesalpinia mimosoides. But Hultholia mimosoides (syn. Caesalpinia mimosoides) acording to this link: https://www.revolvy.com/page/Hultholia. Which is correct. If you cut/ break the branchlets you get a smell (acrid /acid smell ?). A man told me in Vithiri that they call it as Puliyindam and use for some medicinal purpose.

Yes …, thank you very much … you have pointed correctly.
I read about this changeover in Wikipedia, about this species being shifted to a monotypic genus … Hultholia mimosoides.
Other taxonomic related sites also have got this new entry added.
I will make changes in my flickr notes shortly.

There is already a Malayalam wikipedia page on this species … കൂറമുള്ള് (kuramulla)
There may be mentioned more common name(s) in Malayalam, though puliyindam does not seem to be listed. But I will add it in my notes later.
And I have few compiled some names long back:

Hultholia mimosoides  (Lam.) Gagnon & G.P. Lewis
known by this name: Caesalpinia mimosoides Lam.

did nt we just see this case. synonym Caesalpinia mimosoides
but Hultholia genus is supposed to have glands on stem calyx and fruit
So may be better classified as Hultholia genus: Hultholia mimosoides
I appreciate the habitat  picture showing its current state of habit.

Yes, we saw it in some earlier post of mine.
