Carex baccans is a native species to temperate and tropical Asia. It is distributed from China to East Asia to Indian Subcontinent, Indo-China and Malaysia, Sikkim to Sri Lanka, to Indonesia, and the Philippines. In India it is found in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu (From IUCN Red List (LC))
