Garden plant for ID 260511MK02: First I thought of this plant to be a Tabermontana sp. but leaves looks
different. Please help to ID this shrub.
I am sorry that I have no details of this particular plant as this is taken by my friend at a private home garden in Chennai on 20 May 2011.

… most probably Clerodendrum chinense … normally a large cluster of flowers.

yes  Clerodendrum chinense 100%
हजारी मोगरा

This is Hazari Mogra in Marathi
was discussed prior

Clerodendrum chinense.  This is a very very common ornamental plant in Mysore city.   Local name here is   ‘Madras mallige’.

In Tamil it is called as “Mysore malligai”!

Common in gardens in Kerala too. This has a funny name in Malayalam. I have heard people referring to it as ‘Ottor Mohini’ as well as ‘Ottor Mulla’. I can’t decipher what the first part stands for and had always wondered what it could mean!  ‘Mulla‘ means jasmine in Malayalam. ‘Mohini‘ is the one who enchants.

Yes.  It is called ‘Mysore mallige’ in Tamil.

a small correction…it is “Mysore malligai” மைசூர் மல்லிகை (not mallige, which is a Kannada phonetics)

Clerodendrum chinense (= C. fragrans, C. philippinum)

One interesting aspect of this plant is that it has been placed under ‘Lamiaceae’ in wikimedia while Dave’s Garden places it under Verbenaceae !

Most members earlier placed under Verbenaceae have been shifted under Lamiaceae, that is why we had grouped the two families under single week in recent monthly weeks.
