Garden plant for ID 260511MK02: First I thought of this plant to be a Tabermontana sp. but leaves looks different. Please help to ID this shrub. This is a very very common ornamental plant in Mysore city. Local name here is ‘Madras mallige’. In Tamil it is called as “Mysore malligai”! Common in gardens in Kerala too. This has a funny name in Malayalam. I have heard people referring to it as ‘Ottor Mohini’ as well as ‘Ottor Mulla’. I can’t decipher what the first part stands for and had always wondered what it could mean! ‘Mulla‘ means jasmine in Malayalam. ‘Mohini‘ is the one who enchants. Yes. It is called ‘Mysore mallige’ in Tamil. a small correction…it is “Mysore malligai” மைசூர் மல்லிகை (not mallige, which is a Kannada phonetics)
