efi page on Commelina paludosa (syn: Commelina obliqua Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don)

This is what I recognise as Commelina maculata.
There is too much of confusion in names in literature.

Commelina obliqua var. viscida C.B.Clarke is a synonym of Commelina maculata Edgew.
Commelina obliqua Vahl is a separate species .

Thank you …

Which Commelina ??

Perhaps, Commelina maculata

Thank you. How can we verify ?

I am sure it must be a indefinite herb with tri-locular and dehiscent capsule (do confirm). I have recognised it due to its pubescence, flower colour (though it is not clear in pictures, it appears to be blue) and altitude.

Thank you. Descriptions in the ACFPN looks like matching Commelina maculata Edgew. !

Enclosed image and links showing flowering  months made me confused about the ID !

1 attachment.

The attached plate is from which book ?

2 images inserted

But Plate 75 top appears to be Commelina paleata, whereas down one seemingly of Commelina diffusa!

Actually, I meant this image !

Thank you …!

Commelina maculata Edgew.

Its a treat, viewing these images! Commelina maculata, got to see it ! Thanks both of you for beautiful images and ID !

Very nice details and … id.
I wonder why does a weedy plant like a commelina need so much hair … to catch or trap what? … your thought on the uses of so many hairs?

Leaf or the spathe hairs perhaps can refer to reduce the grazing. As much haired are less browsed and less affected!
Hairs on stamens in Cyanotis, Murdannia and Tradescantia are unicellular and moniliform as well. But here it can be referred as food or help to attract the pollinators.
Hairs on fruits, as in section Rhopalephora are usually glandular, and may referred as to improve the seed dispersal.

Commelina.
C. undulata or C. maculata ?

I suggested C. paludosa. Hoping for Mayur sir’s confirmation.

all 3 are very similar to look at. … has identified my post earlier as C. undulata and I think your earlier post as C. maculata, I do not feel confident enough to rule out or rule in any single species with confidence. This will take time and many many posts to learn finer points.

You are right …! Lets wait for comments from other members !

It is albino-flowered (unusual, I have never seen before) Commelina maculata.

C. paludosa and C. undulata has large, rounded, usually lilac or white petals, and acute spathes. Whereas, C. maculata can be sorted by its small, ovate, blue (rarely white) petals and apiculate to acuminate spathes. Although, all the three species often found difficult to recognise in the field, if you are not familiar with key features.

Thanks, … ! Nice words …”Albino-Flowered” .
I have Albino-Flowered C . forskaolii in my collection !

Mumbai, MH :: Commelina for ID :: ARK2020-019 : 8 posts by 5 authors. 2 correct images.

Saw 2 different types of Commelina in the Aarey forest, Mumbai, MH in September 2019.
One was pinkish in colour and one was blue in colour, both growing quite close to each other.

Requested to please provide ID.

C. maculata ??

Image 2 and 5 are confusing me, rest are probably Commelina undulata

Thanks … for the ID. The 2 dark blue flowers may be of some other species, however they were found next to each other.

Indeed, these are two different Commelinas.
Perhaps I can give ID based on the flower colour: blue flowered appears to be Commelina maculata and lilac or mauve can be Commelina paludosa.

Commelina once again ! ID ??

Looks close to Commelina benghalensis. Not sure though.

My opinion is Commelina maculata !! Again this lilac petals and missing cilia on spathes is more confusing.

keralaplants

Adding some more images

I have sent some more images for verification. By the way C. longifolia has got no distribution in nepal.

Thank you for the additional photographs. I was wrong while comparing the images with Commelina longifolia. It more look likes Commelina maculata, but not sure. Please see if you can collect the seeds.
