Euphorbia neriifolia L., Sp. pl. 1:451. 1753
Shrub or small tree with slightly angled stem with spirally arranged tubercles on faint ribs.
Commonly grown in Delhi. okay. Euphorbiaceae week – Euphorbia caducifolia: – Attaching the type specimen. Keeping the size larger than normal so that the sketches are seen. – I doubt ..’s plant being E. caducifolia. This can be verified from careful comparison with type specimen attached by .. and the following links http://www.flickr.com/photos/jvblogger/3327843177/ <http://www.flickr.com/photos/jvblogger/3327843177/> E. caducifolia is more like E. nivulia in stem without angles, differentiated from latter in absence of distinct trunk with branches arising from base, smaller leaves (3-8 cm long) and longer spines 0.5-1 cm (leaves 10-25 cm long, spines shorter than 0.5 cm in E. nivulia). – the above plant appears E. neriifolia with spirally arranged spines on low angles….though I have never seen the flowers or fruits – A couple of more images attached, hope you enjoy viewing them.
But to me it looks like E. neriifolia. Let’s hear from others too. Yes, I also had that thinking, though looking slightly different. spines on older branches should help. Does not look like E. antiquorum. Looked at some images on the net, it does look like nerifolia. Would be happy for a confirmation.
spirally arranged spines suggest Euphorbia neriifolia Euphorbia neriifolia L. -widely cultivated Kas week: AK25092011: Euphorbia royleana: mixed thread: 1 correct image.
Euphorbia royleana from Kas plateau. The second picture looks stemless, and it could be of Euphorbia fusiformis (E. acaulis). Even the first one I think is not E. royleana in which angles are winged and wings run straight. It should be E. neriifolia in which edges are not winged and angles bearing spines run spirally Yes, both … and … are right on their IDs. QUERY :: Kannada name(s) of Euphorbia neriifloia L.: Went through the pdf you have attached.
For Euphorbia neriifolia, Kannada name given here is “Malekalli“, which can be written as ಮಾಲೆಕಳ್ಳಿ.
And there is NO name as ಗೊಟಕಳ್ಳಿ ( gotakalli ) OR ಗೊಟಗಳ್ಳಿ ( gotagalli ) for the same, in Western Karnataka, at least. Many thanks … for … ಮಾಲೆಕಳ್ಳಿ malekalli. Great compilation …
… There is one interesting thing in the nomenclature.
Euphorbia neriifolia L. and Euphorbia nivulia Buch.-Ham. are surely distict two species.
But there is one Euphorbia neriifolia Roxb. [notice the change in authority] which is a SYNONYM of Euphorbia nivulia Buch.-Ham.
So, name “Malekalli“, (ಮಾಲೆಕಳ್ಳಿ) you can assign for Euphorbia neriifolia L.
And ಗೂಟಕಳ್ಳಿ (gutakalli) OR ಗೂಟಗಳ್ಳಿ (gutagalli) for Euphorbia nivulia Buch.-Ham. (Synonym Euphorbia neriifolia Roxb)
I believe, the plant authorities are not mere suffix, but decides the Authenticity of the plant material. Fantastic help with this clarification. Thank you very much Names of Plants in India :: Euphorbia neriifolia L.:

Many of the plants are imported from India.
Due to which I posted for id. To me it resembled E. neriifolia. This species is E. neriifolia L. Habit: Tree Perhaps Euphorbia neriifolia. Thanks …!! I will go through according to your suggestions. Yes, it seems to be E. neriifolia. Please see with leaves. Attachments (2). Yes further confirmed.
Euphorbia nivulia SN AUG 61 : 4 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (2). I don’t think stem is angular in E. nivulia. This should be E. neriifolia. E. nivulia (tree with distinct trunk, leaves 10-25 cm long, spines 5 mm long) can be confused with E. caducifolia (shrub, not trunck, leaves 3-9 cm long, spines 5-10 mm long) but not E. neriifolia.
/species/a—l/e/euphorbiaceae/euphorbia E. neriifolia. E. neriifolia. This is a common plant, in Mysore and surrounding areas, planted as live hedge to protect the farms from livestock intrusion.
