BALSAMINACEAE: ID: Prejith004. Please Identify this one.:
This was found growing on the roadsides at 800 msl in South Wynad.

I cant conclude its identity very confidently but I can say this may be Impatiens from section Oppositifoliae, coz leaves are opposite. Now for the species
It may be I. minor (more probably) or I. oppositifolia.

Yes, I also think it is Impatiens oppositifolia as the leaves are opposite.

It appears to be I. minor but you have got to ensure if the pedicel is glabrous. If the pedicel is with 2 lines of hairs then it could be I. kleiniformis, but this is not (yet) reported from Kerala.

Same thing …, what I observe in displayed picture is glabrous pedicel.

A very tiny Balsam seen near Saputara, on 7/8/13.
Sorry for the bad picture.
It was difficult to capture the tiny flower.

This can be Impatiens inconspicua. (But possibility of I.keliniformis can not be ruled out.)

Thanks for a possible id.
Going through all the Impatiens on FOI, could this be Impatiens minor? Just a guess.

Most probably I. minor, as according to Dessai & Janarthanam 2011 this is only one of balasams with opposite leaves growing so far to the north

Thanks … for the follow up and id of my Balsam.

Can this be Impatiens minor?

This looks like Impatiens chinensis to me.

… the glands at the base of leaves suggest Impatiens minor.

… is right. This is Impatiens minor. I stand corrected. Sending my photographs of this. They were taken on my property at Shahapur.

Impatience for ID 09082011 :: SMP 3:
I think this is Impatience inconspicua. Pl. validate.
Observed near Mulshi Pune. Last month.
Leaves 3-4cm
Flower less than a cm.

Correct only

Your impatience plant is very peculiar and highily interesting. kindly sent the her barium or plant material to us. we will identify and let you the correct name

Sorry I don’t have any specimen as it was spotted in wild in Mulshi area in monsoons. At present I will be happy with near possible ID. If the plant appears to be uncommon or special I can think of confirming if I happen to find it again in next monsoon.

Recently we have seen few uploads similar to this.
I think I will have to rethink about the ID
Can’t it be Impatiens minor?

Following Dessai and Janarthanam 2011 description and illustration as well as key I am almost sure that your plant is I. minor.

Observed this tiny sized flowers of Impatiens.
Looks like Impatiens minor. Pl. validate.

This looks identical like in recent post with I. minor – spur rather thick and almost straight.
Good shot :-), however putting a thumb close to the flower would help to estimate how big it is.

This appears to be I. minor

We can conclude that it is I. minor.

It looks like Impatiens minor, but photographs are poor and fruits of some other plant has obstructed the view.

Please suggest specific id for this herb shot from Pachmarhi, this is Impatiens species, with smallest flowers I have ever seen..!!

I think Impatiens klenii or Impatiens minor…….

Impatiens minor

It looks to me like Impatiens minor (=I. kleinii) which is indeed recorded from Patchmari hills. This species which occurs through out Western Ghats also extends up to Patchmari. But the pair of glands at the base of lamina, which is characteristic in I. minor, are not visible in these plants which may be checked. There is a lot of variation with regard to size of flowers in I. minor.

Family: BALSAMINACEAE
Photographed from the premises of Bekal fort. (29th Aug 2014)
Known in Malayalam as Onatharu (ഓണത്താര്)- indicating that it flowers during the Onam festival season (August-September).
Also called Vellamkudi (വെള്ളംകുടി) meaning ‘that which drinks water’ indicating its succulent nature and was used by children to clean their slates.

Impatiens chinensis

I feel it is I. kleiniformis

–  … do the conspicuous glands on margin at leaf base say that this plant could be Impatiens minor ?.

Searching for three close and confusing species (I. minor, I. inconspicua, I. kleiniformis) in the group’s database would yield many posts (some of them are yet to get resolved of their IDs).
One of the posts has keys provided by … at efi thread

For me also it looks like Impatiens minor (DC.) Bennet

I guess ID is correct ! Impatiens minor.  Impatiens minor (DC.) Bennet
