Erect shrub up to 1.5 m tall; leaves opposite, lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, 8-20 cm long, acute or acuminate, narrowed towards base, glabrous on both surfaces, lateral veins 8-10 pairs; petiole 3-5 mm long; stipules awned; flowers scarlet to orange scarlet, in corymbose cymes 12-15 cm wide; peduncle 1-2 cm long; pedicel 2-4 mm long; corolla tube 25-40 mm long; lobes ovate or elliptic-lanceolate, 14-17 mm long; drupe globose, 9-10 in diam.

A species looking similar to Ixora coccinea but easily differentiated by its larger corolla lobes which are 1.5-2 cm long, leaves elliptic-lanceolate, up to 20 cm long, narrowed towards base and with 3-5 mm long petiole.

A species looking similar to Ixora coccinea and I. casei in having longer corolla tube, orange-scarlet to scarlet flowers but easily differentiated by its larger corolla lobes which are 1.5-2 cm long, leaves elliptic-lanceolate, up to 20 cm long, narrowed towards base and with 3-5 mm long petiole.
