Kindly Id this wild plant, trailing along the ground,
leaves: basal rosette of leaves -absent,size approx 11cms by 3cms with thorny edges
flowers: light yellow approx 1.7 cms.
no fruits seen.
Is this Launaea spp? Can this be a Lactuca? It may be Crepidiastrum sonchifolium (Bunge) Pak & Kawano (Lactucasonchifolia (Maxim.) Benth. & Hook.f. ex Debeaux [Illegitimate]. I think Launaea procumbens Yes I think … is right. I think it can’t be Crepidiastrum sonchifolium in which leaves are strongly auriculate (almost perfoliate) at base and heads on elongated erect peduncles not short lateral ones characteristic of Launaea.

Leaves – mainly at the base with tiny thorns along the edge; 8-11cms x 3cms ; small leaves on shoot of buds
Inflorescence – shoot about 1-2 feet with buds and small leaves
Flowers – cream white, flower head measuring 1.8 cms
Fruits – not seen I think Launaea procumbens

it would be informative if you recall how tall was this plant, size of the flower, the branching if any and the rahcene, in any of the near by plants … or could be Launaea procumbens (Asteraceae). All I can say at this stage the height of the plant was about 2 ft. May be this is Launaea procumbens which is recorded in Pune. Need validation though. yes, florets look like those of Launaea procumbens records of efi.

Feedback from Surajit ji at efi page: Yes it does not seem to have distribution in India as per POWO, CoL and eFlora. It may be Launaea procumbens (Roxb.) Ramayya & Rajagopal as per images and details herein.     Asteraceae member for ID from Uttarakhand: DSR_Nov. 2016_2/2 : 7 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (4) This small herb reaching up to 40cm was photographed in June near Jageshwar (1800m) in Kumaon, Uttarakhand. The plant was seen in open areas like along road, trails, open grounds etc. Leaves are all basal forming rosette and few stems originating from the rosette are leafless and branched upward bearing heads.

Ramayya & Rajagopal due to Phyllaries (especially outer ones) with broad and conspicuously white scarious margin as per Flora of China keys and leaves with white cartilaginous teeth, as per Keys in BSI Flora of India .
