Campanulaceae Week: RVS3: Lobelia nicotianifolia: Lobelia nicotianifolia from W.Ghats TN.
Is this just a variant of the otherwise usually white-flowered form, or a different taxon?

This looks interesting, some what different colour.

Pl go through this illustration of L. nicotianifolia that shows blue color of the flowers.

http://plantgenera.org/illustration.php?id_illustration=45019&language=46

There is no floral differences between these two forms and I do feel it represents L. nicotianifolia

Lobelia seguinii var. doniana (Skottsb.) E. Wimm. ?? : 5 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (9) – around 600 kb each.

Sharing some pictures I guess Lobelia seguinii var. doniana (Skottsb.) E. Wimm. (or just Lobelia seguinii H. Lev. & Vaniot) shot at Chandragiri Hill Kathmandu Nepal

on 19 September 2016 at 8200 ft.

Thanks, …

Lobelia seguinii var. doniana (Skottsb.) E.Wimm. is a syn. of Lobelia nicotianifolia Roth in J.J.Roemer & J.A.Schultes as per WCSP.
Lobelia seguinii H.Lév. & Vaniot is a different accepted species as per WCSP.
I think your plant appears to be Lobelia nicotianifolia, which is a highly variable species as per images herein.
You can also see the comparative images in efi at ‎Lobelia

I guess it matches more with Lobelia seguinii var. doniana rather than Lobelia nicotianaefolia as per leaves flower etc.

I think the pictures added here (3 images) matches with Lobelia nicotianaefolia shot at Nagarkot Nepal on 2 March, 2014 at 6000 ft.

A medium size shrub found towards Phulna village from Gobindghat.

Very beautiful, looks like any Lobelia sp. ..

New to me..

Thanks, …, Pl. Also check comparative images in efi site at this page.

Thanks, …, for the initial id.
Closest match I found from comparative images at Lobelia, is highly variable species of Lobelia nicotianifolia Roth ex Schult.
But I am nor sure if it the same species.

Pl. send other images if you have.

Yes, agree with …. L.nicotianifolia (=Lobelia pyramidalis). It is found at this elevation in other areas of Uttarakhand too.

But Lobelia nicotianifolia of western ghats has completely different morphology….

It is a very variable species. Pl. See

https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/a—l/c/campanulaceae/lobelia/lobelia-nicotianifolia

From Sikkim itself variations are very much. May be a Taxonomic problem yet to be resolved.

I agree that the same (L.nicotianifolia) from W.Ghats looks very different being taller, more robust with dense inflorescence.

This species under the name L. pyramidalis Wall. is well known between 1500-3000m. TPL2013 mention this as a synonym of L.nicotianifolia. Treating both (L.pyramidalis & L.nicotianifolia) as same may be erroneous (?).

Cant say anything more st this stage.

Along the path
One photo overview, one photo habitus of the plant

Lobelia nicotianifolia Roth

Isn’t it Lobelia seguinii

Thanks, Bep ji.
Keys from Flora of China are as below:
22 (21) Leaves glabrous abaxially; hypanthium glabrous; calyx lobes entire. 11 L. seguinii
+ Leaves sparsely hispidulous abaxially; hypanthium scaberulose; calyx lobes denticulate.   12 L. doniana
In view, this plant is Lobelia doniana Skottsb., which is a syn. of Lobelia nicotianifolia Roth as per Catalogue of life;

Checklist of Nepal, only reports this one as Lobelia seguinii var. doniana (Skottsb.) E. Wimm.

If you say that the Checklist of Nepal, only reports this one as Lobelia seguinii var. doniana (Skottsb.) E. Wimm

then it cannot be L. seguinii.
However, my photos were part of a much bigger shrub and what I find of photos of L. Doniana show a rather small plant with a compact flowerhead.
In the link I sent the photos were much more like L. seguinii, especially this one. As is the photo of the flowerhead.

So, I don’t know….

Thanks, …, I do not understand what you want to say ?

I would be very pleased to hear your opinion about my photos and the comparison with the two pictures from http://nc.biodiv.tw/bbs/showthread.php?t=8428

My photos are more alike L.seguinii

I will go with Lobelia seguinii var. doniana (Skottsb.) E. Wimm.
