Many thanks to … for the ID.

It is Venkotta and not venkeatta

Many many thanks … Have corrected my notes.
Such mistakes may occur in future ! Why ? because this happens when I have only the Malayalam word available, without the English transcribed word(s). Then I depend on Google’s transliteration to fetch the English (which does not take account of native accent).
… and dear friends, whenever you come across such errors, do please point them to me.

Gorgeous Catch … I can see the typical structure of Celastraceae flowers

what an unusual petal form, and color

Flora picture of the year 2013

Myristica swamp – many thanks to … for introducing a wonderful kind of forest to me. Very different experience of natural settings – streams, swamps, lush vegetation. One such myristica swamp in Uttara Kannada is Kathalekan (literal meaning in Kannada – dark forest), a sacred grove with shade loving small plants, climbing palms, evergreen trees with mighty girths and peculiar roots. Among the many endemic species, I met this Lophopetalum wightianum. Wonderful large tree with serpentine roots, beautiful sight when in fruiting, the tiny flower – one of the masterpieces of creation.

wow, no words. Very beautiful

Yes Dear …, This is really a wonderful place with unique biodiversity, Nice photograph….. I think … is one of the most resourceful person of our group who is well aware of so many different biodiversity hot spots and various habitats…. Kathalekan is one among them… Salute to him..

Thanks, … Beautiful presentation for the Flora picture of the year 2013.
Most likeable is the way of your story telling waving magic of photography, history, nature etc. all together in a fascinating way. Infact all your posts deserve a special mention.

Marvelous picture! In fact all pictures by … are perfect pictures.

Beautiful presentation, …!
I had an opportunity to briefly explore this unique habitat with interesting floristic composition. This is the only habitat for Semecarpus kathalekanensis, one of the key species of this forest.

Thanks … Your keen company makes such remote trips possible. Wonderful memories.

Thank you very much …
PS: yes …, we were lucky to find few Semecarpus kathalekanensis

Beautiful picture … Not only this one, many of your pictures are masterpieces.

Please help ID this flower: 1 image.
This photo was sent to me by an Ayurvedic doctor for identification. Would appreciate any assistance in ID-ing it.

When and where was it clicked?

I have asked my friend who sent it to me. No response. I kind of sense that it was one of those “forwards”. I know flowers somewhat myself but this particular one has stumped me.

An umbellifer?

I think something else.

Appears to be fallen flowers.

The flower character is matching with disciflorus families like Celastraceae, Anacardiaceae, etc.  leaf details , fruit details will be the supporting character for correct identification.
