Beautiful dark orange saffron spikes are a treat to watch.

Nice pictures of a Caesalpiniaceae member. I have seen this in Amboli/Kolhapur/Panhala etc. Don’t know the closest place from Pune where one can find it. Has anybody seen it in Tamhini or May be near Satara ghat sections?


Once again its a endemic plant to western ghats.
In my 6-7 visits of Tamhini Ghat I never found this plant !! 🙁
Not sure about presence bt im searching same plant at Purandar Fort !!


I have seen Wakeri at the Raigad fort base.
(Exact place: Walsure khind /वाळसुऱ्याची खिंड )

Nice photographs !!! Closest to Bombay, have seen it flowering on the climb up to Irshalgadh, which is a fort on the left of the Bombay – Pune Expressway just before the turning at Chowk for the road leading to Matheran.

Yes …, your sharp eyes detected the plant. Never seen in fruiting though very very common in Goa.

Seen Moullava spicata at many places around Rajapur (coastal MH) in the last week of December 2020.
The route was a pleasant sight with these vibrant red/orange spikes dotting the view at many places.

Superb photos.
For me the ID is correct.  I have sees this plant in Hassan and Shimoga areas of western ghats.

On 31 Dec. 2022, saw a unique inflorescence of Moullava spicata in Amboli.
Please comment if it is normal or unusual inflorescence.
Saw in Amboli, At Roadside, with 3 non usual inflorescence out of other normal inflorescence,
Also attached the photos of its pods.


It does not appear to be normal.
