Pentas lanceolata – 061111 – RK: (mixed thread): 2 pics of P.lanceolata taken on 29-10-11 at 9.55am in Bangalore. its very popular with the nursery folks this monsoon … I have one in my balcony… forgot to tell you, in california… it seems hummingbirds love it… Beautiful photo … and … your humming bird capture is superb. These are also the favorites of butterflies as lots of butterflies can be seen hovering around these flowers. Here is a Orange pentas from Goa. Excellent combo photograph … The plant is widely used in butterfly gardens. There are several varieties / colours. That’s nice to know …, my little plant does not have any flowers right now, had them for about a month at end of monsoon here in Kolkata….. It will perhaps rest and then flower again, am feeding it for green growth right now, and may be later will start off to give it some phosphorous rich food to encourage flowering again… tough job to get these things to flower in pots.. but I am hoping that butterflies would discover my plants/ flowers … The Pentas [gifted to me] is in the only sunny, SMALL, square in my balcony! Am hoping it will attract the v. beautiful butterflies fluttering among the branches/fronds of the Cannonball, Fishtail Palm, B.coccinea, T. pallida, etc. Beautiful bird of paradise… they are sooo common in california gardens, aren’t they? Frrustrating , cant seem to ge t them going…here they seem to not like the high humidity, though in Florida the weather was almost like kolkata, I had a large clump… but in India may be I am missing something in the horticultural details… Rubiaceae for identification 040412MK01: Please help me to identify this Rubiaceae shrub. Is this a Pentas sp.?
