Solanaceae Week: White brinjal: Sending photos of white brinjal from an exhibition.
Botanical name : Solanaceae melongena
Place : Byculla, Mumbai
Date  :  18th February 2011

Please id this Brinjal plant with white flowers seen at a farm here in Muscat on 5/2/2010.
Only this plant had white flowers, all other plants had the usual purple flowers.
Brinjals not seen when the picture was taken.
Height of plant around 3 feet.

Requesting to please validate scientific name of this brinjal plant captured at Velas near Harihareshwar, Konkan Coast, Maharashtra in March 2014.
Is the name Solanum melongena correct?

I think you are correct, Solanum melongena. Your egg plant is spiny, so this may be S. melongena ‘Gelatik’ (according to my student, …).

Nice captures, I am informed that this ranks second in usage of vegetables, only after potato, and first in fruit vegetables..

Solanum erianthum D. Don

along Ghodbunder Road on October 10, 2009

I am sure this is not Solanum erianthum

Perhaps a case of wrong attachment..

It was a herbaceous shrub growing wild along roadside near to human habitat, about a metre high, unarmed.
I think this must be Solanum melongena. Please validate.

Yes, quite agreeable..
