Tawny Coster laying an egg on Common Mallow: wonderful sighting… and fotos… how far were you, or was the mother so intent that your lens etc did Beautiful photographs of the butterfly … I have seen the caterpillars on the leaves of Passiflora foetida. This was photographed using the full – zoom as taught to me by my friend .. who is professional photographer. This helps the subject stand out [while adequately blurring the background] and at the same time not disturbing the subject. Nice fotos, looking forward the the next series of the cat and that of butterflies. Malvaceae Week: Wild lady finger: Most probably Thespesia lampas. This is the Common Mallow [Thespesia lampas / Azanza lampas]. Please check this link for my photogrpahs of the Wild Ladies’ Fingers [Abelmoschus manihot] for comparison : Malvaceae week :: Thespesia lampas:

Requesting to please ID this Malvaceae member captured at SGNP, Mumbai in September 2013.
Is this Azanza lampas? Yes. It is Azana lampas. Grows wildly during monsoon everywhere. Alongside the railway-tracks in Mumbai you can see Azana lampas bloomed abundantly. In marathi it is called “रानभेंड” as the flower resembles Ladies finger (भेंडी) flower. This photo graph of a shrub flowering……A malvaceae member…Don’t know the name.(From old collection)
In fact this picture looks more like a Mysore Mallow (Decaschistia trilobata) (earlier reported by … for a western ghat plant)!
This looks like Thespesia lampas to me.

Thespesia lampas (Cav.) Dalzell Dear friends,
Observed that the flower is smaller (about 2″ across) than the usual 5″ to 6″ across. Moreover, here the flower face is visible unlike the regular ones which appear pendulous, facing downwards. .
