Tawny Coster laying an egg on Common Mallow:
Photographed at my farm at Shahapur over the weekend. The black-coloured egg of the Tawny Coster was perfectly camouflaged on the dry capsule of Common Mallow [Thespesia lampas, syn. Azanza lampas]. Presumably the caterpillar will feed on the fresh new leaves that will sprout with the onset of the monsoons.
Sending a few photographs – the last one was taken by my friend .. .

wonderful sighting… and fotos… how far were you, or was the mother so intent that your lens etc did
not frighten her enough to fly away…

Beautiful photographs of the butterfly …  I have seen the caterpillars on the leaves of Passiflora foetida.

This was photographed using the full – zoom as taught to me by my friend .. who is professional photographer. This helps the subject stand out [while adequately blurring the background] and at the same time not disturbing the subject.

Nice fotos, looking forward the the next series of the cat and that of butterflies.
Last winter a pair of /Tagpfauenauge/ (Inachis io; Syn.: Nymphalis io) came into our Bathroom. I thought they wanted some shelter over the winter. I had read that they prefer celler or moist places. I did not know how to offer them such a place.  I did not disturb them, thinking, they knew what they were doing. Anyway I found them dead, a very disappointing sight. A pity indeed. But that is life.

Requesting to please ID this Malvaceae member captured at SGNP, Mumbai in September 2013.
Is this Azanza lampas?

Yes. It is Azana lampas. Grows wildly during monsoon everywhere. Alongside the railway-tracks in Mumbai you can see Azana lampas bloomed abundantly. In marathi it is called “रानभेंड” as the flower resembles Ladies finger (भेंडी) flower.

This looks like Thespesia lampas to me.

Dear friends,
Observed that the flower is smaller (about 2″ across) than the usual 5″ to 6″ across. Moreover, here the flower face is visible unlike the regular ones which appear pendulous, facing downwards.
