Tragia ¿ involucrata ?
Dear friends, and …, please help validate the ID of this Tragia.

Date: October 15, 2010
Place: at base of Koraigad, Off Lonavala, near Amby Valley

Tragia involucrata L.

Thank you very very much … for quickly validating the Tragia IDs of my sightings.
Any feature seen in this upload that differentiates it from the other three, which points to T. involucrata ?
All sightings are from the same area.

If you find that the leaves are acute, obtuse, rounded or subtruncate at base, then it is T. involucrata or else if leaves are cordate at base, then it will be T. praetervisa. There are a few closely related species such as T. hispida, T. montana, T. involucrata, T. bicolor and T. praetervisa which have narrow specific differences from each another.

Thank you very very much …, for this clarification.

Probably nobody dares to touch a Tragia for the stinging hairs. I had to digest a number of bites when I worked out the genus!

This is what we call JAL-BICHUTI in Bengali, a highly stinging twiner.
Species : Tragia involucrata L.
Bengali Name : JAL-BICHUTI
Habit : Habitat : wild twiner
Date : 18/8/12, 1.46 P.M.
