Vicia sativa subsp. nigra (L.) Ehrh. – Annual herb with pinnate leaves and terminal tendril, leaflets linear-lanceolate; flowers purple in axillary clusters on short peduncles; pod up to 6 cm long, flat.  

Vicia tenuifolia Roth – Both V. bakeri and V. rigidula have distinctly dentate stipules. Here (V. tenuifolia) they are clearly sagittate-hastate and entire.
