Viola biflora ABSEP2016/08 : 3 posts by 3 authors. 1 image.

I am sorry to say that in my fatigue I did not think of taking the side profile showing the spur of the flower. Now I rue this as there are two closely related yellow violets V. biflora and V. wallichiana. Since I do not have proper evidence, we cannot be certain of its identity. However, none of my books on local flora list V. wallichiana (Flora of Chamba, Flora of Kullu, Flora Simlensis) and Polunin & Stainton record V. wallichiana up to 3000m. I only saw two specimen, and both nesting under small rocks at 3200m approximately. These point to my sample being likely V. biflora, but that’s where I have to leave the ID.

To me also V.biflora.

I corrected this mistake too. I was dejected to find the first of the two specimen gone but walking further found the second one at 3300m good enough to show the spur. I think this confirms its identity as V. biflora. Please advise

On the Kareri trek, I saw several of these violas. Previously I had known this plant only from three different individuals photographed last year. Now I made proper acquaintance with this beautiful flower.
