24042011GS1 Lamiaceae for ID from Morni hills:
growing on rocky ground around Tikkar tal lake in Morni. The plant around 1 m tall is tufted plant with several branches from base; leaves opposite, ovate-elliptic 2-3 cm long with crenate margin. Flowers about 1 cm long, about 5 mm across, mauve coloured in few-flowered axillary clusters.

– I think … also have Nepeta hindostana in their mind for this plant. I was present at the locality of taking this photograph. I agree with .., this can be Nepeta hindostana.

– Adding original description from the Botany of Bihar and Orissa Nepeta hindostana (B.Heyne ex Roth) Haines, Bot. Bihar Orissa 4: 744 (1922).

– I remember it now. When .. first showed me this plant, I immediately said it is I think Nepeta  hindostana. Then perhaps I forgot about it while processing the photographs.

fort purandhar seems prolific in hosting good plants!!! 🙂 what else is there?
nice flower colr, I dont know what it is… nepeta? no… is it?

Lamiaceae for sure and Nepeta, as suggested by …, is a possible choice, I guess.
Please try with http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=122138

Could it be Nepeta hindostana?
http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5&taxon_id=242423415

Thanks for the ID
It is indeed Nepeta hindostana. … has also posted similar plant from Morni area.
I don’t know the habitat of that plant.
Two grossly distinct habitats are mentioned for this species in Flowers of Sahyadri.
Occasional in sandy river and stream beds……..
On stone walls of hill forts in Pune……..
I found this species on stone walls of Purandar as well as Sinhagad Fort.
Just wondering how come different habitats.
Any possibility that sandy soil was taken up from river beds for construction of stone walls of forts during Shivaji Maharaj era and some seeds might have gone there ????

Beautiful pics and instant identification. Nepeta are always difficult for me.
A little correction in name- it is “hindostana” in specific epithet.

Requesting to please provide ID of this Lamiaceae member captured in the Kangra fort near Dharamshala, HP in October 2014.

it looks to me a species of Nepeta

This would be Nepeta but I am not sure of the species, could be erecta, would like to have experts guiding us on this. (I am not a botany/ taxonomy guy but a photographer documenting wild flowers especially since the last 10 yrs, extensively covered the Valley of Flowers and adjoining ranges.).
Hope you all will understand.

Probably Nepeta hindostana …

This is again Nepeta, from Morni Hills..
Please suggest the species.. Nepeta hindostana ?

efi page on Nepeta hindostana

To me also appear close to images at Nepeta hindostana (B.Heyne ex Roth) Haines

This taxon is really tough to distinguish at species level and careful examination of specimens is required…
I have recorded some pictures from Morni Hills, they all look alike, and quite possibly I may have mingled them.. still on the basis of slight differences I will post them separately..
If possible on the basis of these pics, please suggest id of this Nepeta recorded from Morni Hills..

Nepeta species so far in efi

After perusing comparative images at Nepeta‎, I can not think of any other species other than Nepeta hindostana (B.Heyne ex Roth) Haines
