Please ID the flower – 17112010SN1_DS:
First pic was taken in Mayabati – uttarakhandanother small shrub on forest trail.
Second one from Ramgarh, again on mountain slope – beautiful violet flowers from a bush .
Identification sought from experts.

The upper one should be Dipsacus inermis.

I suggest you look at …, … et al’s submissions for examples… I learnt about what to photograph from looking at Herbal medicine books published in the west, mainly the DK publishers, Peterson’s guides and American Botanical Council newsletters and magazines… … and Herbal photography of Steve Foster and Christopher Hobbs of American Botanical council… esp Steve Foster…
his pictures over the years made us want them in our own gardens, plant the seeds and watch them and photograph them as they grew… but never could match his range but still was a great exhilarating AND
CONTINUING pleasant part of my life…. I write to him from time to time… always encouraging… never an ego problem, never a tantrum… never admonishing …. very pleasant interaction….

I found this teasel on my way to Snowline on 27 August. The flowers were not yet open and I had made a mental note of the location to revisit it. Sadly, when I went again to check on it on 3 September, I found no trace of the plant (no leaves even!). I guessed a browsing animal had got to it before me. Whatever evidence I have suggests that it is (was) Dipsacus inermis. Please advise.
I hope to see another specimen in future and see the flowers.

In Kashmiri language it is called “Wopal Hak” and Lawrence in his book “The Valley of Kashmir” refers to the use of its leaves as a pot herb. These days its dried leaves are sometimes added to cooked pulses (Dal) by cooks familiar with traditional cusine.

Ok.
